I considered calling this section "Application" or possibly "Ephemera" because this is where art and illustration can be userd outside the traditional confines of books or paintings. Visual interpretations generated out of a broad variety of brainstorming sessions on a wide range of topics big and small. I have sketched the possible look and design of a frog exhibit (and painted the cabinets), created life-like 3-dimensional butterflies for a back yard habitat display and made templates for kid-friendly interactive activities. My art has been used for information signs, identification cards, company shirt patches, t-shirt images, badges and promotional pieces. Taking a hypothesis from abstract theory to rough proposal to finished product, using art and imagination in unexpected and intriguing ways.
No butterflies or caterpillars were harmed in the making of this exhibit... they were all created by hand!
Concept depiction: the coral reef is the rainforest of the ocean. From rough concept to sketch to finished full-size display (a full team effort, I did the basic design and the painting but someone else cut the panels and made the aquariums and cabinets).
